Arne Wiig is presenting Symbols Codes Signs Our everyday life is filled with symbols, codes, and signs. Items and phenomena are full of secrets that mos people do not know. These are the secrets that I am revealing in this program. My name is Arne Wiig and I am a Doctor in History of Religions. In modern time, the image or photography is of great importance. If we want to prove that something is real, then it is good to have a photography to show. If you have seen a UFO, or if you have been chasing a Unicorn in your backyard. Maybe you have seen Bigfoot. Then you have to remember to charge your camera next time they show up. Because nobody will believe us if we cannot prove it. Hearsay and eyewitnesses may probably be useful, but if you have a photography then the case is closed. Although photographies can be manipulated, let us imagine that we are entering a crime scene with a lot of items spread around, broken windows, and destroyed furniture. Hard for the police to piece the puzzle together. But if there was a surveillance camera that would have taken a good picture of the face if the criminal then it would have been easier, than if you would have had to puzzle. But it is not necessarily the face that helps us recognize a person. Movement patterns, gestures, or the way of behaving is at least as important when it comes to a persons appearance I have brought an image that I would like to show, and I am convinced that when you take a look at it you will immediately say who it is presenting. This is a painting painted by Leonardo da Vinci. It was recently sold at Christie’s Auctions for US$450 000 000 so it is an extremely valuable face that we are looking at. The reason that we are directly saying that this is a portrait of Jesus is interesting. It is an habitual behavior. The probability that this is the real face of Jesus is far from sure. The real face of Jesus is unknown to us, but it is sufficient that someone is portrayed with long hair, beard, maybe with a blessing gesture, and eventually a globe in the hand or sometimes a book and then it is obvious that it is Jesus. Habitually trained pictures are precarious and when it comes to witness psychology there is a risk that you confuse the one you thought it was with another one. Before the 4th century, the church is still not established. There is not an established organization. It will happen first when emperor Constantine the Great, in the beginning of the 4th century, is establishing Christianity as the state religion. Now the Creed is formulated, what we call the New Testament is a collection of disparate scriptures that are compiled into one book. The church is now deciding what is the correct representation of what is supposed to be the life of Jesus and behavior in the first Christian era. Maybe they wanted to make Jesus appear as an official authority Maybe someone who had that distinct appearance with the beard and hair. Maybe there was someone who looked like that, someone at that present time that was highly respected someone who was used as a model. In the time before Constantine’s establishment of Christianity as the state religion it looks in a radically different way. I have brought some pictures to show you. A strange image that occurs a few hundred years before the established image of Christ first occurs. It is the image of “the man in the roman robe”. Shaven, short haircut, blond hair, and with a wand in his hand. I have brought a small wand as an example. Jesus is namely walking around and making miracles using a wand. Obviously, this has of course given rise to speculations if Jesus might possibly have been a magician. Now we have to make clear that the view of everyday life and the holy in ancient times is completely different from our own time. Magic, spirituality, holiness blends together in a different way than the strict definitions that the church later made where magic was something dark and bad, and the where the holy is something light and good. In the time of the first church, the perception of the supernatural and the perception of the transcendence which means everything that is not earthly is all blended together. The image of Jesus as “the man in the Roman robe” is interesting. Is that an image of Jesus the way he actually appeared in reality. An argument against this could possibly be that there are other images depicting Jesus that actually is not portraying Jesus, they are symbols. These pages are presenting two persons. Both are actually the same one. It is the Roman Hercules. The strong mythological figure and he is fighting against different kind of creatures, evil creatures. And that is the image of how the evil forces are combated. During a period, when the Christians were persecuted in Rome. They were borrowing different Roman mythological motives and transformed them to Christian motives. So Hercules was, in fact, a secret image of Jesus and the creatures that Hercules is killing was, in fact, secret images of the evil that Jesus is fighting. According to this, we can state that the Roman image of Jesus may also be a symbolic image that has been used to cover up the fact that they had a master who was forbidden. Could it be so, that we, in the picture of the Roman Jesus is observing the trace of something that is real? If we imagine that Jesus really has had a wand in his hand when he was teaching and made miracles. How would that have looked like? And in if so, why did he have a wand like that? In ancient times, the wand is a symbol of power. In the Old Testament, Mose is using a wand to divide the Red Sea and at another moment hit with his wand on a cliff so that water would pour out. Even Mose’s brother Aaron is, in a magic context in Ancient Egypt, using a wand which he is throwing with the purpose of transforming it into a snake. The same trick is repeated by the Egyptian priests. The wand can also illustrate the wish of having the ability to transform things. And this is interesting because if Jesus actually was using a wand, this would prove that there is a story about Jesus that exist, but is not established in the sanctioned and official church after the 4th century. These stories that have been authentic stories from eyewitnesses or hear sayings about Jesus are becoming the basis for the images in the Old Church. And Jesus with the wand could have been one of these images. And if that is the case, we can observe a trace of something that has occurred and that later was made forbidden, images that later became forbidden art. Right after Jesus died. After year 33 A.D, the disciples scattered in the Ancient Near East, in Greece and Rome. And the ones that arrive in Rome, where these images of Jesus and the wand exists, they of course, tells the stories about Jesus in different ways. They have met him, they have known him and these stories are not formulated in texts. It is just stuff they are talking about. It does not necessarily have to be written down. If this is the case, there are secrets right in front of us that are hidden. Which today is totally misinterpreted as Jesus as a magician when in reality it is authentic documents which are providing us traces of information of how Jesus looked like and behaved in reality. This is Arne Wiig with Symbols, Codes & Signs. That is all for today. Arne Wiig was presenting Symbols Codes Signs
