International Freedom of Religion or Belief Day 2018

Hi, this is David Anderson, a Member Parliament
from Canada. I’m a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians
for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB). Every October 27th, we mark International
Freedom of Religion or Belief Day because freedom of religion or belief is
foundational to all other human rights. While many may not realize it, religious
freedom is an expression of three foundational rights: the freedom of
conscience, freedom of speech, and the freedom of association – and history shows
us that religious freedom and democratic freedoms are inseparable and intertwined.
A decline or improvement in one will inevitably result in a corresponding
impact on the other. IPPFoRB plays a vital role in bringing
legislators together around this single cause of religious freedom. The sharing
of resources, the development of common approaches, benefits parliamentarians of
all religions backgrounds and regions of the world as we work to advance FoRB for
everyone. In four short years, IPPFoRB has been able to shine a light on FoRB
because of the commitment of so many dedicated legislators. This International
Freedom of Religion or Belief Day on October 27th, take a moment to reflect on
the importance of this fundamental human right, and on a challenge of defending
the three-quarters of the world’s population who are persecuted just
because of their beliefs.

While I agree with the freedom of conscience, speech, and association I can not agree with religions bigoted refusal to question itself after proven concepts have been promulgated.
