HONEST WORSHIP LEADER // feat. John Crist

Would you take a moment to find your seats just take some time to just just reflect what God has done for you I mean what honestly what was that? That was the worst worship set I have ever seen Is no one paying attention. I can’t hear anything in my monitors. Tiffany needs to be first of all way down Is she sick or something her voice is just It’s a problem. Listen. Here’s what I need more of myself and less of everyone else my monitors. Thank you I mean Did you tell me how I’m supposed to hear the Holy Spirit when I got Kyle yelling in my ear all Morning about what y’all are doing wrong who is running the lyrics? Like the youth intern? It’s bridge bridge chorus not bridge chorus bridge I just feel so incredibly humbled to lead worship in front of this large of a crowd. Also, did anyone take any photos of any of that? I just want to upload them to my Instagram. Look at me, bro. You can’t nail that bassline We’re gonna send you back to the satellite campus. I just need more energy out of everyone across the board can Can we get some real musicians around here. It’s not about me. I mean it is about me. The pastor is like where are you, and I’m like I’m writing songs from my own solo EP Honestly, I could use some more beard oil in these photos I need those guys to bring the house lights down Honestly, our third vocalist her mic isn’t even on. She’s just up there for diversity. We are vessels here. It’s not about us I just bought this 400 other leather jacket. I like for it to show up on the live stream Just let the spirit move through you can somebody get me some throat coat my throat is killing me I need to be on vocal rest. I don’t know I just feel like I’m carrying the vocal weight of the entire worship team I mean everyone loves like the bethel vibe and I get that everyone wants to be spontaneous But like have you heard my musicians like you don’t want these people being spontaneous the crowd was better for the first service Like elevation worship have you seen my worship bands more like descending worship has anyone seen my scarf I need more of me Chris Chris says service in five minutes. We need you in here makeup. All right you guys pray about it

As a 54 year old, slightly overweight guy with thinning grey hair, I feel more and more defeated by the clamour to do the worship music to get the attention of the teenagers. Time to step aside maybe.

that's what passes for P&W these days. frighteningly ungodly but no one seems to want to change it. and then if you have a false teacher as a pastor like osteen and his wife then you have a church that is just leading souls to hell…. AND GETTING PAID MILLIONS TO DO IT. It's time the church got back to God.

I prefer a more traditional approach to singing and music. I like singing hymns and listening to choirs. I don’t mind singing newer stuff sometimes, but it can bother me just how much a Church will spend on all that equipment. I will take a simple organ over all that other stuff any day! By the way, I am not some old-timer, I am only 32.

As believers we need to follow the church dynamics God has set out in His Word.

    1. Do not muzzle the ox giving out grain. Truth is the Pastor gets paid because he serves up Spiritual feeding to the flock.
Jesus command to Peter was "Feed my sheep" not ~sing to my sheep~.

    2. Leading a church to sing is NOT essential to a church's dynamics. EVERYONE who has been redeemed can sing & worship God regardless of being gifted in it or not. It is ones expression & response to His/Her creator out of a heart of gratitude joy & gladness over God's work in redemption & sovereignty over all
A church can function & get out the word / gospel minus praise & worship leaders.

    3. The Word of God is central part of church growth not music. Again to proclaim God's word or the Gospel through music is good. But the word of God has to be preached. And a lot of these Praise & Worship showmanship doesn't proclaim the gospel through song rather an emotional experience.

Worship is a lifestyle not a playlist of “christian” music once a week inside a building with other people.

Hilarious and I think he hits the nail on the head.. but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.. The Father is seeking such to worship him in spirit and in truth.. There is a place for corporate worship as laid out in the Psalms by King David.. clapping.. raising hands.. dancing.. singing.. rejoicing.. bowing etc.. It was so important that when the apostles met together in the early church they recognized that God is going to bring back the Tabernacle of David.. Not of Moses but of David.. the emphasis of David's Tabernacle was 24/7 worship before the Lord.. We definitely should be worshipping.. but worship in the Bible required sacrifice.. To sing and clap and dance as David danced before the Lord which Mical the daughter of Saul despised was a sacrifice.. it was death to David's flesh.. which is why Mical didn't like it.. she was a daughter of the Saul.. a man of the flesh chosen because of appearance.. At any rate.. True worship is going to cause our flesh to die.. to not like God's style of worship hence a true sacrifice to the Lord that is sweet a sweet smelling savor to God.. what we see In most churches today is not a sacrifice of our flesh.. but rather a feeding of it. The clothes they wear.. the style of music.. the hair dos.. the lights.. Its very "professional" but it's not worship in truth and I present to you it's a different spirit.. It's the devil's music disguised as worship and he is setting himself up in the temple as God. 2 Theselonians 2:4oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.. The true church needs to get back to Biblical worship and reinstitute the Tabernacle of David. If we do that the presence of God will return and life's will be truly changed in the heart.. not emotionally. Immorality among our youth will fall drastically since the worship is not being driven by sensuality and pride.. From a Biblical perspective the vast majority of worship is completely unbiblical and we are seeing the results of that in our youth.

He is basically saying the opposite of what should be said lol and sadly, I think it is a true reflection of modern day church service, all about the lights, the people, performance everything and everyone is focused on but except for the one who we should be focused on which is Christ alone.

Are churches really like this? Or is this just a megachurch problem. I go to a small 300-400 people church and our youth services are not at all like this

So true, let me guess he turns up to rehearsals late and is the first out the door before pack up. Oh and don't forget his 600 microphone needs to be plugged in for him. Haha so funny if it wasn't true in so many large churches.

This is why I go to a Presbyterian church. Old school faith. They can get dragged into the weeds during their debates, but it is about the people and the congregation. Not the pastor.

We attend a very small church. And scenes like this is why. I play guitar, we have a piano, drums and a bass. My wife and 2 other ladies lead the songs. Some days sound great, some in our mind may stink. The focus though is Jesus. There could be a person who can and wants to sing or play but are afraid because they are not great. So what! God tells us to make a joyful noise. It may be noise to some but to him its worship. And that's what matters. The song It's all about you, came from when the music became more important than worship. The preacher shut down the music service part till they got back to where God was the center. Point is, if I ever get to where I think there needs to be more of me over anyone I hope God will shut me down. If my coat needs to be seen please shut me down. I want my God to year what I do for him if no one else does or even cares. I want him to know I love him not the attention. He is what this is about period!

It has become "McWorship" with the "McCongregations," blue & purple background colors against black (image search "contemporary church stage" and note the majority), fog, ambient lights, the obligatory hipster (usually on guitar), and now trending – aged barnwood with vintage Edison bulbs hanging around stage. As a pianist I have played with groups who focused on all these elements and poured energy into the sound board, presentation, program, etc. leaving me asking "Fine, but where's the Holy Ghost?" What is actually emotional is being labeled spiritual and it doesn't last – substituting brass for gold. Good news is leaders are recognizing keeping with the fashion is not growing their churches, but prioritizing the Word and Holy Spirit produces results and all the rest will follow.

As the son of a former worship leader and the brother of yet another worship leader this is on point. Barely anything to do with worship and everything to do with self gratification. The most dangerous phrase in Christianity today is “I feel the spirit leading me to” then insert statement regarding something that makes you the center of attention…

I’ve always thought it’s ok if instruments were off key, or someone’s microphone isn’t on. We are still worshiping the Lord no matter what’s wrong with lighting, sound or pitch.

All the more reason to get away from the "modern megachurch" hype and back to authentic, humble, personal experiences with God through worship, praying, Scripture, etc. You don't need "worship leaders". Nobody needs to "lead" anyone else in worship. Growing up, you had one person up front waving an arm to keep the time to the songs, no microphones, no speakers, and everyone sang together as one. I cannot STAND modern worship in churches, where the "worship team" (worst invention ever!) blares out through speakers and you can't hear the person singing next to you, let alone your own heart or God's spirit.

I used to be a worship leader. I'm very thankful that I never led worship in a big church. Personally, so many things done today are a turn off to me (the fog machines, the 37 singers each with their own mic, the worship leader wearing skinny jeans with holes and a chain, bedhead hair and a t shirt with a neckline big enough to fit a 400lb man, etc). Less is more, but I guess if you have the finances to go big or go home, then put on a show for God.

I found it funny but thankfully never saw or heard of this happening at my relatively small church. Most of the people who play instruments now were taught by one of the youth pastors and want to be up there. As it should be because many people didn’t end up going to all the lessons.

I think a big problem is that so many young people don’t read for themselves and allow God to reveal Himself through His word. Instead, they take what is said by the ones who make them feel comfortable. If you will notice, most of these large entertainment-style churches never get to know their people but rather just parade them as children of God. I proclaim that everyday, but I also never lose sight that I don’t deserve nor am I entitled to one single thing in this world. All of these churches are too focused on making sure the spotlight is centered on the main singer rather than positioning our spotlights on the true risen Savior who is still in the business of setting His children free. Sadly as well, a lot of these worship leaders, I believe, fall short of the anointing. Christine Caine puts it best when she talks of how there is a major difference between a song leader being gifted anointed. The gifted parade themselves and their talents before men and strive for man’s applause. The anointed direct any and all attention to the One who is the giver of all things. Where I am from is an area with traditional, conservative, Southern Baptist churches. This is a good thing because it teaches kids and adults to learn the Word of God for what it is: truth, rather than twisting it. Don’t be confused though. These “mega churches” are fine as long as they are anointed and never lose sight of where blessings come from. I am a firm believer that those who claim glory for their gifts instead of directing it to God will surely be dealt with by Him.

"Just take some time to just reflect on what God…" I was once training this guy from Brazil at work, and he spoke very little English. He asked me, "What does just mean?" I was speechless for a bit, then I said, "Don't worry about it. It doesn't mean much."

Not necessary! Christian worship music is boring! And if you make that statement to anyone these days they come off with the rant that “ you’re proud and unspiritual if you don’t like it. Not to say that all the songs are bad. Just poorly written and could be so much more as far as musicianship and excellence goes. The pride comes in when you feel you have to defend poor musicianship and can’t handle constructive criticism. Wake up everybody doesn’t want to be a star, that’s really the root of a different issue. You are a star in Gods eyes already you just have to realize that. It will bring humility not look at me. Because of this should be celebration and thanksgiving. We did not earn it. I wanna give him my best for his best he gave me.

I now realize how good the youth at my church manages the lyrics. If other churches are having a hard time with a set progression of the songs, what more when the progression of the song is entirely dependent on the worship leader's discernment?

I used to work at a church and was helping with the passion play. The associate pastor was directing. As the play started, an usher accidentally went into the sound room to get something and the pastor yelled: “Get out of here, we are in production” 😔 Needless to say, no longer work or attend.

Okay, usually these videos half annoy me, but this one was so spot-on! You have to laugh! I've been that singer at a mega church a few years back and traveled with them also singing on albums etc and this was perfectly spot-on -sad but true. BUT this is where the scripture comes in of When God says that He knows we're but dirt LOL. No one is perfect and the job is highly stressful and draining and yes, when any of us are followed around and served all the time we tend to act like little brats. Lucifer was a walking band scriptures say and that's why he's called the Fallen Angel of praise and worship. And your saw Pride's starting point right there….God help us humble ourselves…PLEASE LORD…(still gotta laugh.) >BUT DIRT<
