God is NOT a theology lesson, Jesus is NOT a concept. He is the SON of God who saves. How many people have had testimonies of meeting jesus and their life transformed. GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS CHRIST.

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.”

Eating from the tree of knowledge will never allow you the fruits of the Tree of Life…….this lecture falls very short of what the scripture represents. Stop trying to figure out who or what God is just accept you are not God but you can love your neighbor as yourself.

I think believing the "muh millions of years of evolution" theory is 100% garbage. Of course evolution in the sense that scientist talk about is not real. It's literally impossible. In no where in nature has it ever been found that LIFE can come from NOT LIFE. Man used to know this, before the flood. You know, the flood "myth" that almost all cultures dating back thousands of years talked about, despite being whole worlds apart. The burning of the Library of Alexandria destroyed was on purpose and it was so we would forget. "You are not a body that has a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."

Jordan, the reason you cannot fully understand it is because you refuse to believe that modern "science," with their millions and billions and millions, is complete nonsense and it is. Science is not nonsense, but these outlandish non-measurable (muh millions and billions and trillions of years) theories are not true.

Mr. Peterson, you should convert or have someone convert what you said in these lectures into a nice book, appropriately named after this first lecture, "The Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories", for those who appreciate the printed form.
Just an idea! Thank you very much for making this series!

Wtf he's describing things I've thought of before. I think intuition is basically the nonverbal part of our brain giving us hints translated as emotions or gut feelings. That's basically the inarticulated part of the brain he was talking about

he says we don't believe them now, but I believe them, and I know a lot of people who believe them. faith is an enduring characteristic of man and we have to have something to have faith in. even if you don't think that it's true, it's good to have a common core set of cultural myths. it allows us to communicate in a sort of short hand and confer complex moral and life teachings in short, easy to understand pieces.

The fecundity of texts historically has been limited by technology (no printing press or internet), causing all textual memetic evolution to be concentrated in one book. This to me is proof that it's something significant. It's the only high-fidelity piece of culture from a period spanning thousands of years!

Regarding the last question…the 'perfect fidelity replica' just add more unique value to the original, because it's now something that was worth counterfeiting, with the world's most advanced technology. But it's not the same, and we combat counterfeiting to the best of our ability, including carbon dating and paint analysis, etc, making certifying the original a forensic affair of making sure every detail matches with the painter and the materials that he used. In fact, this forces many art counterfeiters to purchase lesser value painting from the same region, era, etc in an attempt to acquire material that can be tested to match. This level of scrutiny just makes you realize the original painting is truly unique.

I think what he really wanted to know is whether a successful counterfeit makes revelations gleamed from them less real?

John 14 King James Version (KJV)

14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

    16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
    King James Version (KJV)

One absolute truth that I think all of us could agree on is that, we still don't know about things that are beyond us. I'm a Christian and im still don't know the absolute truth of things. I just go on my day with faith in God and that's it. Idk what the next day holds, idk if the God that I was taught in sunday school is actually the truth. I'm just waiting until the day we find the truth and let God reveal Himself in the very end…

GOD givith and takes away, Eternity is not in the here after, the beginning has an end.  Our flesh wants what it cannot have as the spirit knows, only the spirit belongs to GOD and is ETERNAL.  The flesh is a temporary state to know GOD so don't waste it.

"Researchers have recently discovered that new genes in the central nervous system turn themselves on when an organism places itself in a new situation. These genes code for new proteins. These proteins are the building blocks for new structures in the brain. This means that a lot of you is still nascent in the most physical of senses, and will not be called forth by stasis. You have to say something… go somewhere… and DO things to get turned on. And if not, you remain incomplete." Dr. Peterson takes a fabulous scientific finding and shows how it is essentially a spiritual phenomenon. I find myself laughing out loud in real joy.

As much as I love this lecture, nothing Petersen said proves the existence of God, the truth of the Gospel, or that there’s any divine agency out there. You can’t use the Bible to prove the existence of God anymore than you can use the Koran to prove the existence of Allah. Outside evidence is needed.

A couple days ago I started wondering if when we lie or act in a deceitful way it makes it harder for us to see truth in the world around us. Like as Jordan Peterson says it distorts reality. I wonder if (and think it does) literally alter our perception so effectively that we can’t actually see where lies end and truth begins. And those of us that suffer from underlying anxiety, depression or paranoia are feeling that way because our behaviors have distorted reality. And if we corrected whatever ills we’ve committed may align themselves in a way that facilitates a correction of our understanding in general.

he is a non-theologian and not intimate with the study of divinity or the history of religion…..he has a fixed mundane/profane methodology attempting to offer a rational or semi-rational psychological explanation of the motivations, goals, and stories in the bible….that's one way to look at the bible – as our set of instructions that explain how we became conscious, overcame obstacles, descended from the trees and exited the jungles, and eventually became human.

  48. claymore cluepile

    September 7, 2019 10:34 pm

he never talks about God as if God is a real being…God/Yahweh/Marduk/El are all aspects of the same search for 'meaning' rather than self-existing supreme entities….the God(s) are mythic explanations of how to survive in the realm of the consciously self-aware intelligent animals. He never addresses the 'mystery' of faith or the 'reality' of the supernatural/divine/transcendant except as it is a method of man trying to learn about his nature and eventually master the vagaries of survival and success in the real material world of things and actions and events.

A single author can indeed edit the beginning of a book after writing the ending, but the Bible was written by 40 different authors over a period of 1,500 years. Was Dr. Peterson referring to God as the author who is the beginning and the end?

Couldn’t answer why the Bible is patriarchal, God is male, Jesus is male, no place for female, let’s add genderless spirit – holy trinity. It doesn’t go well with his view of nonexisting patriarchy. But nevermind, this lecture is astounding, and very nice of him to let everyone see it for free.
